Introduction
Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower Limited was established and registered in Department of Industries under the Government of Nepal Company Act 2053 on B.S 2065 which was transformed as public limited under the Company act 2053 on B.S 2075. Makar Jitymaya Suri Hydropower Limited has proposed Suri Khola Hydropower Project 6.4 MW and Upper Suri Khola Hydropower Project 7 MW, which is the hydropower projects identified in Suri River at Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-05, Suri, Dolakha. The activities of the company is being carried out in cooperation with Ministry of Energy (MoE), Nepal through Department of Electricity Development (DoED) and the local community. It has planned to contribute to the national economy through accelerated hydropower development.
Suri Khola Hydropower Project 6.4 MW
Suri Khola Hydroelectric Project (SKHP) is a Run of River (RoR) type project with installed capacity of 6.4 MW that lies in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality of Dolakha District of Janakpur Zone in Bagmati Province of Nepal. The project headworks site is located just downstream of confluence of Hulak Khola with Suri Khola and powerhouse site is located at Gurumphi village on left bank of Suri Khola about 300 m upstream from the confluence of Suri Khola with Khare Khola. The settling basin lies on right bank of the river and headrace pipe alignment crosses river at some distance from headworks and passes along left bank of the river. The project encompasses an area between latitude 27o44’10” N to 27o45’13.85”N and longitude 86o12’50” E to 86o15’10” E.
DoED had awarded the survey license to the company on 2065-10-09 to conduct the necessary investigations, feasibility study and environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the project. In 2072-1-28, SuriKhola Hydropower Private Limited applied for the generation license with the DoED and presented among the concerned officials. DoED accordingly awarded the Generation License to SKHPL on 2071-02-24.
Upper Suri Khola Hydropower Project 7 MW
Upper Suri Khola Hydro Power Project (USKHPP) is a run-of-river type project with weir crest level at 1827 amsl for Hulak Khola, 1824 amsl for Kolung Khola and turbine axis is fixed at elevation at 1405 amsl. The gross head for this project layout is computed as 422m. The water from the intake is diverted to the water conveyance system through the gravel trap, settling basin and head pond. Then water is feed to powerhouse through 2916 m long headrace pipe from Hulak 1156 m long headrace pipe from Kolung and 810 m penstock pipe to hit the turbine. The generated power will be evacuated by 33 kV single circuit transmission line at proposed Singati substation of Dolakha district. The length of 33 kV transmission line will be about 11 km.
The project area is located between 1407m to 1827 m above mean sea level in the reach of suri Khola. Geographically the project area is located between longitudes 86° 17‟ 00”E to 86° 15‟ 10”E and latitudes 27° 44‟30” N to 27° 43‟30” N. Entire project components of project lies in Gaurisankhar Rural Municipality. The project area location map is shown in map below. The powerhouse is linked by 12 km long fair-weather earthen motorable road starting from Singati Bazar.
USKHPP is located in Dolakha district, Bagmati Province of Nepal. The district headquarter is Charikot on the Lamosangu-Charikot highway. The distance from project site to Charikot is about 45 km. There is a regular bus service from Charikot to Gurumphi on the left bank of Tamakoshi River. Gurumphi is at the confluence of Suri Khola and Khare Khola. Powerhouse are of the project is about 3.5 km from Gurumphi
